We can’t believe we’re actually saying this, but the Motorola Oasis ($80) may have entered into cool-looking Bluetooth headset territory — a place reserved for very few, if any, others. The Oasis uses a behind-the-ear design, multiple ear gels for a comfortable fit, a small, shiny boom with dual microphones to cancel noise and suppress wind, easy-to-find dedicated call and mute buttons, and MultiPoint technology to let you connect and receive calls from two devices at a time.

It packs all the high-end design features that set a Vertu apart from more common mobile phones, but packs a full QWERTY keyboard and a wider screen to keep its user connected and in the loop.

For the Quest, Vertu has also introduced new features like Vertu Remote Assist that allows the tech support team on call ’round the clock to go into the phone and fix whatever’s not working. There’s also Vertu City Brief, providing users with fingertip access to information on whatever location they’re traveling to. All that and more, packed into a choice of stainless steel (matte or polished) or 18-karat gold case with a leather back and sapphire crystal screen.

iRetrofone

This is one of the first iRetrofone designs I’ve seen where the iPhone actually blends into the design and isn’t immediately apparent or sticking out like a sore thumb. ‘Fusing art with function’ is the aim of artist Scott Freeland with this creation, which although it’s awesome to look at will certainly require a very specific decor scheme to pull off. Each iRetrofone Steampunk is hand-sculpted, hand-cast in urethane resin and then hand-painted. They’re each a fully functional iPhone dock complete with USB compatibility for syncing and charging and an enormous (but also functional) old-fashioned handset for conversing like grandma used to while reducing your radiation exposure. Get yours for $350 on Etsy.

R2-D2 version of the DROID 2

When Verizon announced the new Motorola DROID 2 (which is available today!), they mentioned that there would be a special R2-D2 version of the DROID 2 hitting some time in September.  While we’ll have to wait to actually purchase the device, a photo of the DROID in the wild has leaked out for all to see.  Sure, it’s only the back of the device, but it’s better than nothing.  Besides, that’s likely the part that will most  closely resemble everyone’s favorite Artoo unit, anyway.  The R2-D2 DROID 2 will be previewed at Star Wars Celebration V, which starts today, so I’m sure we’ll be seeing much more of this little DROID very soon.

Although it may not be big with the mainstream, Star Wars fans are a fervent bunch, and I’m sure the R2-D2 DROID 2 (that’s a mouthful) will fly off the virtual shelves when it hits next month.  The device will have the look of R2-D2 on the outside and will come packed with all kinds of exclusive Star Wars content preloaded onto the handset.
